Get your math instruction revived with one or more of the following Professional Learning Events! Contact us for custom training packages! Additional sessions under development. Want something specific for your school or district? Just ask, we’ll help you design the Professional Learning your teachers want.

MATH CAMP

Join us as we learn about how Math Camp works from kick-off, through Camp Sites and wrapping up with Camp Fire! We will learn about the “Big Five” critical components of students mathematical understanding, then discuss how to weave these into your math block. Next we will discover how to organize and design meaningful math stations that build students’ computational fluency and conceptual understanding of the anchor math standards.

3 hours – basic format and organizational structures for a Math Instruction Block

$450 for 25 teachers, $20 per additional participant to maximum class size of 40.

(Participants will receive a Math Camp packet which includes all necessary materials to get a classroom organized, structured and ready to go to Camp.)

Math Camp for K- 2 classrooms

Now that we know the structure, let’s go to CAMP! Want some ideas, games and workstations to kick off the year? Join me for this 3-hour session where teachers will participate in Math Camp activities and experience what “Math Camp” is all about. Play is children’s work, so let’s “play math” and get ready to change the way we approach math instruction in our classroom. Teachers will complete the session with a Make and Take time to get them started!

3 hours – Teachers will participate in the Math Camp experience and leave with activities to start implementing the first few weeks of Camp Sites.

$450 per 3-hour session, plus $42.50 per participant up to a maximum of 25 teachers.

(Participants will receive Counting Spots exclusive make and take materials.)

Math Camp for 3-5 classrooms

Same format as above but for 3-5 grade teachers focusing on computational expectations in those grades.

Story Problems – The Missing Link in Mathematical Understanding

Why do students LOVE story time, but hate story problems?? Join us as we explore ways to meet the Common Core K-2 Addition & Subtraction problem situations in a fun, meaningful, playful way. (Did we say play?? Don’t tell!) Through the use of props and creative thinking, you can teach your students to love story problems, too!

3 hours – Teachers will:
  1. Understand the word problems for each of the 12 types of addition and subtraction situations in the CCS (K-2).
  2. Identify what kind of question is appropriate for each grade and how to write quality tasks.
  3. Learn, through the use of props, to engage and empower their students to solve and then create their own story problems at the appropriate levels.

$375 for up to 30 teachers

Participants will gain an appreciation for the importance and relevance of story problems in early mathematics. Teachers leave with sample problems written and an understanding how to continue these throughout the year.

Story Problems – The Missing Link in Mathematical Understanding

Do you hear groans when your students are confronted with word problems? Change their groans into glee with Story-telling & Problem solving. Kids love mysteries, so find the mystery in your word problems. The multiplication & division problem situations lend themselves to real-life mysteries that your children will love to solve.

Same format as above but for 3-5 grade teachers focusing on multiplication & division story situations.

$375 for up to 30 teachers

Participants will gain an appreciation for the importance and relevance of story problems in developing mathematics. Teachers leave with sample problems written and an understanding how to continue these throughout the year.
